Having a heck of a time getting this integrated. I create a bare-bones Flex 4.1 project in Flash Builder. I add KapInspect_Flex4.swc as a library, and then I have the following application

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<s:Application xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009"
minWidth="955" minHeight="600" >
<kapit:KapInspect />

<mx:Text text="Test" />

I give the page focus, but cannot get shift-cmd-f12 (working on Mac) to bring up anything. I am using the correct keystroke as I am able to bring up the inspector in your demo. Do I need to do anything else? Do I need to add the module SWFs to my path, put in my bin-debug dir?

Did you try Cmd+Shift+Click ? It's equivalent to F12, but sometimes it works better if F12 key is already captured by the OS
In your case, if it works on our demos, then this is strange.
Your code is OK, in this way, you do not need any other module, just link the swc into your app, so it should work
If it does not, I have not much clues about it, except that to suggest you to install the source code, rebuild locally, and try to debug it.

I'm also having problem on Windows 7 using Flex 4.1 and the latest KapInspect that downloaded two mins ago.

I've also tried over riding the shortcut but am having no joy...

Yes there is a bug with the shortcut and it's already fixed actually.

The next update should be released around mid-september.

In the mean time, you can use Ctl/Cmd+Shift+Left Click
